Welcome
HART is the 2011 McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce Non-profit of the Year!

While saving the lives of homeless pets is a primary tenet of HART’s mission, equally important is its steadfast commitment to affordable, accessible spay/neuter services and Humane Education. HART has assisted in the sterilization of over 4,500 animals since it began a spay/neuter voucher program in 1996, and currently hosts a mobile spay/neuter clinic each time a roster of 20-25 McIntosh County animals is compiled. The fee for this service is deeply discounted and is based on each pet guardian’s ability to pay. For more information on this program, contact Martha Lang at 912-437-5095
.
HART is an all-volunteer, 100% donor-funded, non-profit, purely grassroots organization. Every penny donated to HART goes directly toward helping animals in need. HART is licensed by the Georgia Department of Agriculture to house up to 80 animals but currently has no facility. With funds raised and donated, HART has purchased a small building soon to be operated as a Halfway House which will serve as a holding area for animals either pulled by HART from McIntosh County Animal Services or taken in by HART from other sources. The HART Halfway House will allow animals more time to be listed on and adopted from Petfinder.com, thus giving them the life extension they badly need and so deserve.

A core crew of hardworking HART volunteers works almost every weekend year around sponsoring and manning fundraising and off-site adoption events that include Rabies and Microchip clinics; food, plant and yard/garage sales; parking cars at the annual St. Patty’s Day parade; and taking Pictures With Santa at Petsmart. HART began offering cats and kittens for adoption at the Brunswick Petsmart store on August 3, 2011, and to date has adopted out nearly 240! HART members utilize each and every event as a venue for teaching concepts of responsible pet guardianship, especially the importance of spaying and neutering.

Clearly an emerging presence on the local animal advocacy scene, HART is quickly gaining the reputation of providing help when it is needed. It is an organization that goes beyond its stated mission – To create a humane and effective solution for the stray and abandoned companion animals of McIntosh County – making it the first choice in 2011 for the McIntosh County Chamber of Commerce’s coveted Non-profit of the Year award. Since HART is 100% donor-funded, donations are always welcomed and very much appreciated. Donations can be made online by using our donate button on the left hand side of the page or by USPS at P.O.
